We began farming in 2003 with no traditional farming backgrounds. Our goal was to re-imagine how a farm, our farm, could contribute in a world where massive farming operations were already bringing wonderful produce to market – both organic and traditional.
We began to chart a course toward the intimate. Providing exquisite organic produce to small restaurants, grateful chefs, and boutique caterers throughout California were our initial baby steps. We were proud to see Bear Flag Farm produce on menus and in the veggie sections of local markets, but the reach of our farm was still limited. A friend, with immense vision, suggested that we invite people to Bear Flag Farm for small events. It was the spark that ignited our passion to create true field-to-table experiences for those who would not otherwise be exposed to organic or sustainable farming.
Now in addition to sharing our fruits, veggies and wines with chefs and small markets, we get to share our farm. Helping to educate hundreds of people each year about the importance of small family farms is part of our mission. It's a way of sharing our small piece of earth with those who can champion the need for small sustainable and organic farms.
We remember Johnny Appleseed who traveled and always planted seeds along the way. Now, people travel to Bear Flag Farm and we give them the seeds to plant along the way of their own life's journeys.
